## Description

Bacteriostatic water is sterile, pyrogen-free water for reconstitution containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. It is the default diluent in most labs whenever a lyophilised peptide vial will be punctured more than once, since the benzyl alcohol holds back most bacteria that might get in during repeated withdrawals.

It pays to regard benzyl alcohol as a real component, not an inert extra. At 0.9% there are about 9 mg in every millilitre — enough to show up on a chromatogram, to act as part of the vehicle in cell assays and to clash with a few compounds. When any of that is a concern, choose the preservative-free sterile water listed next to it, accepting single-use handling. Available formats are a 10 mL vial, a 30 mL vial and a pack of three 30 mL vials, covering everything from one peptide reconstitution to a bench making up many vials from one lot. Keep unopened vials at 20–25 °C out of the light; once punctured, standard practice is to refrigerate and observe an in-use limit of around 28 days.

### How does bacteriostatic water differ from sterile water?

Both are sterile and pyrogen-free. Bacteriostatic water also contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, a preservative that suppresses bacterial growth so the vial can be punctured repeatedly. Sterile water has no preservative and is meant for one-time use — once opened it should not be kept and used again.

### Which peptides can be dissolved in it?

Most lyophilised research peptides in our range — BPC-157, TB-500, GHK-Cu, semaglutide, tirzepatide, CJC-1295, ipamorelin and MOTS-c among them — are routinely reconstituted in bacteriostatic water for lab preparations. ### How long does an opened vial last?

Once the stopper has been pierced, most labs keep the vial at 2–8 °C and dispose of it after about 28 days, or sooner if the liquid turns cloudy or changes colour. Follow your facility's SOP in every case and write the first-use date on the label.

### Is it tested, and is documentation available?

It is produced as a sterile, pyrogen-free product, and every vial carries a lot number and expiry date. Lot documentation is available on request. Because it is a reagent rather than a peptide, an HPLC purity figure does not apply in the way it does for our peptide vials.

### Which size should I choose?

We offer 10 mL and 30 mL vials plus a three-pack of 30 mL. The 10 mL vial is handy for a few reconstitutions; 30 mL suits labs preparing many vials or larger working volumes. The three-pack reduces the cost per vial for busy benches.

### Must bacteriostatic water be kept in the fridge?

Unopened vials are kept at controlled room temperature, 20–25 °C, protected from light. Do not freeze, as this can damage the seal. After the first puncture, it is standard to refrigerate at 2–8 °C — both the diluent vial and any peptide solutions made with it.
