## Description

Hexarelin is a synthetic six-residue growth hormone secretagogue derived from GHRP-6 by adding one methyl group: position 2 carries 2-methyl-D-tryptophan in place of D-tryptophan. This tiny change reportedly boosts metabolic stability and potency at the secretagogue receptor GHS-R1a and gives the sequence His-D-2-methyl-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2.

Hexarelin stands out from the other GHRPs in the literature because of a second target. Cardiovascular research found that it binds CD36, a scavenger receptor present in heart tissue, and a number of studies have explored cardiac effects of hexarelin in models where growth hormone release does not explain what is seen. It therefore serves both as a reference secretagogue and as a probe for signalling independent of GHS-R1a.
