## Description

SS-31 — also called elamipretide, and earlier MTP-131 or Bendavia — is a synthetic four-residue peptide based on the Szeto–Schiller aromatic-cationic design. Its sequence, D-Arg-Dmt-Lys-Phe-NH2, alternates positively charged and aromatic residues and includes D-arginine and the non-natural amino acid 2',6'-dimethyl-L-tyrosine (Dmt), giving it exceptional resistance to peptidases for such a small molecule.
