This 29G × 0.5 mL insulin syringe is the smaller partner to our 31G × 1 mL model. Its half-millilitre barrel is marked every 0.01 mL (50 units on the U-100 scale), the 29-gauge, 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) needle is fixed, and the plunger has low dead space. As the same graduations cover only half the volume, the marks sit further apart and are easier to read when you measure very small amounts.
Researchers pick it for moving small quantities of dissolved peptide — for instance, dividing a stock vial into measured portions in sterile empty vials, or preparing dilution series for assays. A 29G needle is slightly thicker than a 31G one, so it bends less and lets thick or concentrated liquids pass more easily, and at half an inch long it comfortably reaches the base of a 3 mL vial.
