With only three amino acids and a mass of about 418 g/mol, EDR is tiny even for a peptide. Publications from Khavinson's school propose that such short peptides act directly on DNA and on the packing of chromatin to change which genes are active; that group's studies in rodents and cells have examined whether neurons survive lack of oxygen and oxidative damage, how ageing animals perform in behavioural tests, and markers of protein production in nerve tissue. What do the letters EDR mean?
