SNAP-8, listed in cosmetic ingredient databases as acetyl octapeptide-3, is a peptide of eight residues with an acetyl group at the start and an amide at the end, designed to imitate the first part of the protein SNAP-25. Together with two other proteins, SNAP-25 forms the SNARE complex, the machinery that docks neurotransmitter vesicles and fuses them with the membrane of the nerve ending. By offering cells a competing copy of that sequence, SNAP-8 is investigated as a way to disturb SNARE assembly from outside the cell — quite a different approach from botulinum toxin, which cuts SNAP-25 inside it.
Structurally, SNAP-8 is a longer cousin of acetyl hexapeptide-8 (Argireline): the core Glu-Glu-Met-Gln-Arg-Arg is identical, with alanine and aspartate added at the end. Cosmetic-science papers usually describe these extra residues as a way to bind the SNARE site more tightly, and the two peptides are regularly tested against each other in the same series of experiments.
Peptide Medix EU sells SNAP-8 as freeze-dried powder, in vials of 10 mg or 50 mg. An independent lab confirms ≥99% purity by HPLC, each lot has its certificate, and orders are shipped from our EU warehouse — for laboratory research only.

Questions about SNAP-8 (Acetyl Octapeptide-3)
What is SNAP-8?
It is acetyl octapeptide-3, an eight-amino-acid peptide with an acetylated start, modelled on the beginning of SNAP-25. Researchers use it to compete with SNAP-25 where the SNARE complex assembles, and it is widely discussed in papers on cosmetic ingredients and on vesicle fusion.
What is its relationship to Argireline?
Both share the core Glu-Glu-Met-Gln-Arg-Arg; SNAP-8 simply adds alanine and aspartate, so it has eight residues where Argireline has six. According to ingredient literature, the extra length helps it engage the SNARE binding site, and the two are frequently tested side by side.
Is each lot independently tested, and can I see the COA?
Yes. An independent laboratory checks identity and purity of every production lot using HPLC with mass-spectrometric confirmation, and the certificate — stating lot number, assay result and test date — can be requested before purchase.
Does SNAP-8 dissolve in water?
Readily, both in water and bacteriostatic water, and it suits most aqueous research vehicles — handy for buffer-based assays. Record working pH and any co-solvents, though, as they influence the stability of the dissolved peptide.
Which vial sizes are available?
There are two: 10 mg for smaller assays, and 50 mg for larger formulation projects or experiments you'll repeat many times. Each vial contains nothing but the freeze-dried peptide.
How should SNAP-8 be stored?
Keep unopened vials at −20 °C, protected from light and moisture. Store solutions at 2–8 °C in a defined buffer and use them promptly — its methionine makes long storage in water and repeated freeze–thaw cycles a bad idea.
