The active ingredient is the synthetic tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly (also called epithalon or AEDG), CAS 307297-39-8, formula C14H22N4O9, molecular weight 390.35 g/mol. Epitalon comes from the Khavinson bioregulator programme, where it was created as a defined synthetic equivalent of Epithalamin, a polypeptide extract from the pineal gland. It is among the most researched members of that family, featuring in studies of telomerase expression in cultured human fibroblasts, melatonin rhythms and pineal signalling, and lifespan and tumour-incidence outcomes in rodents.
